Our core
regulatory work
• Demonstrate the value of our profession-wide Standards to
society generally and, more specifically, to key stakeholders
within and outside the UK.
• Provide clear assurance that engineers and technicians are obliged to uphold
professional standards requiring safe, sustainable and inclusive practice
throughout their careers.
• Develop contextualised applications of professional standards and registration
within safety-critical areas, where risk justifies structured reliance.
Partnerships
• Build a collaborative engineering community that supports engineers and
technicians as change-makers.
• Work together with professional engineering institutions to build
awareness of professional registration with Government and employers.
• Represent the UK engineering profession in key international
partnerships and trade negotiations.
• Champion the position of our UK Standards to maintain international
relevance and strengthen mobility and recognition.
Internal change
• Strengthen our policy and external engagement activity to ensure
professional registration is accurately understood and appropriately
relied upon by key stakeholders.
How we will measure
Progress under this theme will be assessed through
evidence that the assurance provided by professional
registration is clearly articulated and consistently
applied. This includes monitoring the extent to which
professional registration is understood and relied
upon appropriately by employers, Government and
international partners.
We will also track indicators of wider recognition and
use of professional registration and Standards across
key sectors, including safety-critical and public
protection settings.
