Our core
regulatory work
• Clarify and, where justified, adapt our Standards to ensure they
remain applicable across established and emerging areas of
engineering practice.
• Ensure registration requirements are applied consistently across
developing as well as established areas.
• Strengthen and apply licensing practices proportionately to maintain
trust and confidence.
• Apply Standards coherently and proportionately in emerging and
interdisciplinary areas of practice, informed by risk and evidence.
Partnerships
• Build partnerships across new sectors and disciplines to ensure our
Standards fully value them and are contextualised appropriately.
• Play an active role in partnerships that identify, articulate and develop the
skills required for emerging and transitional areas of engineering practice.
Internal change
• Apply best practice in technology to make our regulatory systems
and processes more efficient and connected.
How we will measure
Progress under this theme will be measured
primarily through evidence that the regulatory
system is adapting effectively to changes in
engineering practice.

This includes monitoring how standards
are interpreted and applied across
emerging and established areas
of practice, the use of risk-based
licensing approaches, and the
extent to which registration
pathways support earlier and
sustained engagement with
professional registration.
