Foreword
From the Chair and Chief Executive
The pace of change in engineering and technology is accelerating,
bringing both unprecedented opportunities and profound responsibilities
as society responds to ecological pressures and rapid social and
technological change.
The Engineering Council’s 2030 Strategy sets out a bold vision for
the regulation of the profession, one that’s responsive, inclusive, and
grounded in the public interest.
As the UK’s regulatory body for the engineering
profession, we’re committed to adapting our
regulatory framework to get ahead of innovation
and reflect the realities of new and emerging
areas of engineering and technology.
From AI and data-driven systems to climate
resilience and decarbonisation, engineers are
shaping the future. Our role is to ensure that
our Standards evolve in step with this dynamic
landscape so the profession continues to protect
people and the planet.
Building a fairer, more diverse and inclusive
profession is central to this strategy. We will
champion change across the sector, helping to
ensure that the engineering workforce better
reflects the communities we serve. Through
our Standards, guidance and partnerships, we
will support a culture that values and enables
inclusion. A more representative profession is
not only fairer. It is more innovative, resilient
and better equipped to serve society.
We are strengthening our focus on ethics
and global responsibility. Engineers work in
a complex, interconnected world where their
decisions have wide-reaching consequences.
By promoting awareness of our Standards to key
decision-makers and supporting engineers to
uphold these values, we will ensure the profession
continues to deliver public benefit.
This strategy will guide how we regulate
the profession, working in partnership with
professional engineering institutions and key
stakeholders including Government. It commits
us to strengthening how we work internally investing in our systems, people and governance
to remain an effective and respected regulator.
By 2030, together we will shape a safer, more
sustainable and successful engineering profession
that increases the value of engineering for careers,
companies and communities.
